Historical performance

How to read a portfolio's historical path, return observations, and drawdowns without turning the past into a promise.

How to read it

Performance is a record of what happened over a selected window and under selected assumptions. Change the dates, rebalance rule, fees, and cash treatment and the result can change materially.

Why it matters

A visible return number is easier to interpret when it is paired with the path that produced it: drawdowns, recovery time, observation coverage, and the market conditions in the window.

Evidence boundary

Historical performance is backward-looking. It does not establish a likely future return, suitability, or a guarantee. Short windows and incomplete data can make comparisons especially fragile.

These pages explain historical and diagnostic evidence. They are not forecasts, guarantees, or personal financial advice.
